5th Grade Scholars enjoying last day at PALI Outdoor Science Camp in Arrowhead
The buses will be arriving at Highland Oaks betwen 1:15 and 1:30. Parents are welcome to pick up their fifth grade student at that time. Please park along the street and walk in.
The buses are due back to Highland Oaks between 1:00 and 1:30 p.m. today. Parents are asked to park on the street and walk in when picking up their child. Students will be released from school upon their return. However, for students attending any after school activities today they will proceed at the usual time to those pre-arranged situations.
The campers are participating in their last classes on topics of Aerodynamics and outdoor acitivities on a rope course and slide.
The camp has already reported how impressed they are with our scholars, how inquisitive they are with great depth and complexity to their probing questions and responses to varied experiences, as well as their respectful behavior throughout this outdoor science experience.
They have experienced some snow conditions.
After an hour and fifteen minute bus ride, the campers arrived safely finding snow on the ground and a heavy fog shadowing their mountain respite.
All of the campers were excited to begin their outdoor adventures today engaged in Aerodynamics, Ground Based Initiatives, Ethical Leadership, Forest Ecology, and concluding the busy day with a night hike.

California Distinguished School
In November, Highland Oaks School was pre-screened and invited to apply for the
California Distinguished School Program
recognition. This program honors the most exemplary and inspiring public schools within the state. We quickly formed a focused group of parents and teachers and began to write the application which was due in December. Our application was accepted! A group representing the California Department of Education visited Highland Oaks on March 22 to validate the contents of the application. We were thrilled to open our school to the visitors and share the extraordinary work and learning that occurs every day. Several Highland Oaks scholars shared their extraordinary learning experiences and pride in their school with the validation team and served as ambassadors, as well, as they accompanied the visitors in classrooms throughout the day. The visitors were impressed with every nuance of our school and validated each component of our signature practices and beyond. Shortly after their visit we received notice from the
